Crown Media Family Networks wanted to creatively kick off 2013 with a perpetual flip calendar for their Ad Sales and Distribution clients. Using the distinctive brand voices of their two networks (Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel) as a base, we brainstormed various inspirational and quirky phrases and interspersed them on all months, days, and dates of the calendar, so that recipients would flip to a new message each day of the year (and for years to come!) |

In May, we began our first project with The Home Depot. We partnered with The Home Depot safety team to brand a new associate safety initiative and launch it in 2,300 outlets by early August. Our “to-do” list included focus groups, strategy sessions, video shoots, online & print components, and the production of 164,000 patches! The Safety Matters campaign is something that we’re very proud of; it’s been our pleasure to work with The Home Depot and to enable their ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. |

This June, Planet Studio launched the JetBlue and PBS Kids’ Soar with Reading campaign which has seen great success in generating awareness and promoting children’s literacy across the country. In just 3 months, an estimated 1,500 books have been donated through First Book and our members have logged over 192,000 reading minutes. Even more, there have been over 110,000 registrations for the Soar with Reading sweepstakes! We just wrapped up DVD and Blu-ray packaging and authoring for PBS’ upcoming Ken Burns newest title, Prohibition. Prohibition is a three-part, 5 ½ hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick that tells the story of the rise, rule, and fall of the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the entire era it encompassed. Perfetti Van Melle (PVM) asked Planet Studio to generate excitement and create a memorable experience for their sales team around one of their biggest product launches in the last 10 years! PVM is launching a new gum that will give consumers a choice of two flavors in one package in a unique way, strongly differentiating PVM from its competition. To highlight this key benefit and get the team pumped up, we created a sales meeting centered around creativity, innovation, and choices in Las Vegas.
From start to finish, we delivered a consistent message beginning with an email invitation that gave attendees the choice of hotel and entertainment. We designed all presentations and room decorations, booked talent, and kept the energy up throughout the meeting with a mix of music, lights, and games that everyone could participate in. It was a huge success and a lot of fun!

Joseph Szala is a Senior Designer at Planet Studio who brings a wealth of knowledge of design, interactive and brand strategy. After running a successful branding firm in central Pennsylvania and New York, NY for 8 years, Joseph joined the team at Planet Studio bringing with him new media strategy knowledge and design savvy for clients of many sizes and industries. His ability to see the bigger picture, and develop strategies that combine new media and traditional, make him a valuable asset to the company and our clients. Joseph has spoken at numerous business trade events, and is a published journalist on the subject of branding and brand identity design. Joseph also served as Adjunct Professor at Art Institute of York, Pennsylvania where he taught Design and Multimedia. His design work has been featured in industry journals and publications. |

Heatmax, the maker of air-activated heat packs, asked Planet Studio to evaluate their package designs and provide a recommendation to establish a stronger and more unified brand platform across their product range. We performed a competitive review and examination of existing consumer research and results showed that we needed to leverage the awareness of the HotHands brand name, improve the overall shopability of the packaging, and distinguish Heatmax’s product line in a cluttered category. After new packaging designs were developed, we tested them using an online quantitative survey developed by our research division. Look for the packaging in stores now. |

The newly revamped www.sixhourdifference.com went live on October 5th, marking a great milestone in a consumer-driven campaign for Molnlycke Health Care’s Hibiclens and Hibistat antimicrobial soap and wipes. To support the campaign, banner ads will run on various MomsLikeMe.com and local news sites across the nation, Facebook.com, and through ContextWeb’s network of nearly 11,000 sites. We’re thrilled about the buzz surrounding the campaign and the impact it is having on retail sales! The initial retail campaign supporting only Hibistat increased sales by 58% from the year-to-date average prior to the campaign. |

PBS asked Planet Studio to roll out the campaign for Ken Burns’ latest film, The Tenth Inning. Having designed and programmed the DVD for his original series, Baseball, it was a natural fit for us. We designed the DVD packaging and DVD & Blu-ray screens, as well as print ads for publications like Time and Sports Illustrated. Outdoor creative included subway train banners, a jumbotron, posters, coasters and more. The online campaign included an email and banner campaign with an expandable banner that housed a trivia game for users to test their baseball knowledge, watch the trailer and go to the Facebook page for more information. |

The Hallmark Channel partners with Planet Studio to announce the launch of The Martha Stewart Show. Planet Studio created mailers which were nothing short of creative, crafty, and one-of-a-kind. Top affiliates nationwide received a unique launch mailer that included a customized box with tune-in message that literally popped out of the box, accompanied by a Martha Stewart book & tote bag. A custom card that slides to reveal a message was also developed to drive awareness & tune-in. The programming premieres today so make sure to check it out. |

Once again Perfetti Van Melle asked us to team with them to design and produce their national sales meeting. "Raving Fan" was this year’s theme and was developed to reinforce a new sales method that PVM introduced at the event. Every component of the event - banners, table displays, PowerPoint presentations, games and prizes - were custom designed. We had a blast producing the "sports caster spoof" video clips that we incorporated into the presentation - they really added energy to the meeting and kept the crowd entertained. We kept it interactive by photographing each broker and uploading their custom Sports Card to the event’s Facebook page. All logistics were managed by our Planet Studio team who were onsite to ensure things were running smoothly. All in all it was a WIN! |

Planet Studio designed an ad for Molnlycke Health Care’s Barrier products, and we are thrilled to hear that the ad won the highest overall score in advertisements featured in the March 2010 issue Materials Management in Health Care. The Barrier ad introduced the idea of "elemental comfort from head to toe" and featured Barrier’s new line of single-use apparel that is not only comfortable, but is also able to protect operating room staff members throughout any shift. |

Planet Studio just wrapped up Blu-ray and DVD screen design and authoring for PBS’ The Buddha and Earth Days. The Buddha is a documentary from Emmy-Award winner David Grubin that tells the story of the life of Buddha and Buddhism’s relevance in modern times. Earth Days, an American Experience title, is directed by Robert Stone and explores activism within the environmental movement told through the stories of nine individuals. Both of these titles are very enlightening, and we enjoyed having the opportunity to work on them! |

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology wanted to reach out to their audience to inform them about APIC Anywhere, their online educational center for infection prevention. The Bunnell Idea Group (BIG), a sales training and coaching firm, partnered with Planet Studio to develop their brand, collateral materials, and web site. We started with the design of their Sales Foundations Course materials titled "GrowBIG", a series of 12 modules and worksheets created to help sales people discover how to implement behaviorally-based selling techniques. We created the overall look and feel, developed images, graphics, and a custom binder to hold all materials. Then we applied that look to a new web site, which we designed and coded. BIG has received great response to the new materials and web site and we’re continuing to help The Bunnell Idea Group, Think-BIG and Grow-BIG. |

Perfetti Van Melle, the company behind Airheads and Mentos, asked us to design and manage their trade show booth for the NACS Show (National Association of Convenience Stores). Their objective was to communicate to convenience store buyers that Perfetti is a leading confectionary company because of their innovative products and their strong consumer marketing support programs that “Captivate Consumers Consistently.â€
Going beyond visuals — we developed interactive activities to drive home the message and draw people into the booth. At the “Sour Lab†station for example, attendees were able to experience the extreme “pucker-ability“ of a new Airheads sour candy. People were greeted by a mad scientist, sampled the new product, and had funny pictures taken of themselves that were later emailed to them with a follow up message from Perfetti.
Based on the photos and the feedback we received during and after the event, it was a big success! |

Newly launched network, Wedding Central, has partnered with Planet Studio to develop their Affiliate campaign launch. The network is all about, well, you guessed it, weddings! So naturally the communications created around the campaign were very wedding-centric. Top affiliates nationwide received a high-end network launch mailer that included engraved champagne flutes and a customized champagne bottle that were packed in a custom foam mold and surrounded by silk and rose petals. A printed piece hand signed by Wedding Central’s president accompianed the mailer and an orange bow tied it all together. We have also launched an e-mail campaign that will run through December and will provide interesting wedding factoids and unveil the network’s target audience and programming. Every other month a new mailer will be sent to keep Wedding Central top of mind. A diamond paperweight is next on the list! Who doesn’t love a big diamond?! |

PBS asked Planet Studio to work on the consumer print campaign for THE NATIONAL PARKS: America’s Best Idea, A film by Ken Burns, that premieres this fall. PBS wanted to recreate a scene from a true story that is mentioned in the film: Glen & Bessie Hyde honeymooned down the Colorado River in 1928, never to be seen again. Our Planet Studio team recreated everything for the photo shoot down to the last detail: boots, socks, coats, pants, worn gloves & hats from the period; we sourced the talent to look just like the couple; and our team even designed & built a replica of the Hyde’s boat! The actors really got into character during the photo shoot and Ken Burns and PBS were thrilled with the final ad. Tune-in to the series premiere on September 23 at 9pm on PBS. |

Alaven Consumer Healthcare asked us to design a mailer to introduce Travelan - a new product that helps reduce E.coli attacks when traveling in exotic locations - to travel agencies, doctors, corporate travel departments, and press. To get people’s attention and communicate the product’s benefit, we used toilet images on the outside of the box with the message, “Bathrooms Don’t Count As Travel Destinations.†On the inside, we designed a place setting with Travelan as the main dish because, to be effective, it needs to be taken before every meal. Each mailer included a brochure, a package of Travelan, branded premium items, and a personalized letter that addressed each target’s specific needs. We also included a branded thumb drive with additional information in the mailers going to press. The mailers have definitely caught people’s attention. |

We are proud to announce that the Scripps Networks Ultimate Bath Website entry into the Interactive Media Awards (IMA) competition has won the IMA Outstanding Achievement Award with an overall score of 475/500. The Outstanding Achievement award is the second highest honor bestowed by IMA and an extremely challenging award to win. The website excelled in all areas of the judging criteria and represents a very high standard of planning, execution and overall professionalism. The Scripps Networks Ultimate Bath Website played interactive webisodes whereby users could click on the products showcased in each fun and unique bathroom segment and then buy them online. The site also featured an interactive poll where users could rate their favorite bathroom design, decorating tips, and a send to a friend function. |

We were very excited to learn that our WE tv Holiday Card won a best of category award and our CNN L’Oreal Inspire Summit Program won an award of excellence in the 2009 Print Excellence Competition. The competition, owned and managed by The Printing & Imaging Association of Georgia (PIAG), recognizes printing and imaging companies who combine fine craftsmanship with technology in order to produce outstanding finished products. WE tv came to Planet Studio looking for an end product that said "holiday" but using their brand colors and tone. The result was a fun piece that includes diecuts and glitter, while still showcasing WE tv content. CNN asked us to design an eco-friendly program featuring special guests and award winners for their Women’s Empowerment Conference. The Georgia Office of Planning and Budget (OPB), which provides the Governor with a recommended state budget every year, hired ScotCro LLC to reengineer its processes in order to increase efficiency. When the restructuring was nearly complete, ScotCro asked Planet Studio to design a graphic that would help OPB employees better understand the overall budget processes and what needs to happen each month. The graphic is now displayed on the walls of the OPB offices, and it was recently featured in Atlanta Magazine. |

WE tv came to Planet Studio for direction on promoting High School Confidential to media buyers. Planet Studio wanted to introduce something that media buyers would be excited to receive, while remaining consistent with the ad campaign. They not only needed the buyers to open the mailer, but read it and contact their ad sales representative. The solution: a custom printed piece that included a $10 iTunes gift card and instructions that drove recipients to a custom created iMix with songs hand-picked to describe the stars of the show – the 12 young women that High School Confidentialfollowed for four years. The mailers were a success, reaching 600 media buyers and bringing in over 100 calls to WE tv ad sales representatives. The Weather Channel (TWC) came to Planet Studio to drive the announcement of its High-Definition offering and educate clients on weather’s relevancy and impact on consumers. While most cable and satellite executives may find it challenging to read through the trade magazines, TWC researched alternative methods of communications that would both reach their target audience and that would break through the clutter of traditional trade advertisements. This piece had to be effective, compelling and showcase the nature and beauty of its HD content. A targeted direct mail piece was developed, which featured breathtaking imagery and interesting facts that spoke to the relevancy of The Weather Channel HD. This mailer helped further build relationships, positioned TWC HD as a revenue generating addition to operator lineups, and ultimately kept TWC HD top of mind. The HD direct mailer was effective, from both impression and budgetary perspectives. PBS challenged Planet Studio to create a cohesive campaign for THE WAR that would encourage a diverse target audience to not only tune-in to the program, but also drive viewers online to THE WAR website and increase DVD & Book purchases. Planet Studio exceeded expectations and THE WAR became the most watched series in the last ten years on PBS. It also sold over 200,000 copies of the DVD during the first month of availability. "It’s an honor to have all of our hard work and time acknowledged in this fashion," said Jamie O’Donnell, Planet Studio’s Vice President. The Mark Awards competition is a member service of the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing, and recognizes outstanding achievement and excellence in marketing from networks, cable companies, and suppliers. Planet Studio received the Web & Interactive Marketing AMY Award for their work on the Rogers Athletic "Build Your Own Sled" website. Planet Studio developed the site to help generate sales leads for customized Rogers Athletic football blocking sleds. The objective was to make it easier for customers to customize their sled online with the colors and accessories available, and select payment options without having to call a sales represenative. Rogers Athletic wanted the customer to virtually see the product before purchasing it. Rogers Athletic has had over 3,000 custom sleds built via the website since the site launched in March. The Georgia Anti-Litter Campaign received the AMY Award in the Visual Branding/Identity Business to Consumer category. Cookerly Public Relations came to Planet Studio requesting help with creating the brand identity for the litter abatement campaign, and executing a comprehensive communications program that would inspire Georgians to take action to eliminate litter. The campaign elements needed to be easy for affiliate partners and other entities to use, as they would ultimately be responsible for the media purchasing and placement. Requests for "Litter. It Costs You." collateral materials were immediate after the launch. Stakeholders and partners in governmental organizations from across the state recognized the usefulness of all the materials. The main objective of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) tradeshow graphics was to draw attendees to the Rogers Athletic booth to experience their new line of weight equipment (Pendulum) and feature some of their new and existing football training equipment. Rogers Athletic and Planet Studio teamed up to create the Pendulum Road Tour trailer, a mobile marketing trailer that traveled nationwide to introduce the new equipment, with the AFCA tradeshow being the first stop. The trailer was a success; it created a buzz throughout the entire venue and left competitors in awe when the mobile marketing trailer was being brought into the facility. As show attendees started trickling in, more and more attendees and competitors were interested in the new products and getting a chance to talk with the sales rep to get more information. PBS’s THE WAR challenged Planet Studio to create a cohesive campaign that would encourage a diverse target audience to not only tune-in to the program, but also drive viewers online to THE WAR website and increase DVD & Book purchases. Planet Studio exceeded expectations and The War was the most watched series in the last ten years on PBS. It also sold over 200,000 copies of the DVD during the first month of availability. |

Series, a campaign aimed at recovering lapsed PBS viewers. Planet
Studio had to incorporate images from six PBS brands and tie them
together with a similar message. The "Save Your Nights" campaign
emerged and resulted in a 5% gain in ratings over the previous year. Scripps Networks presented a unique challenge to Planet Studio with the
Ultimate Bath Website project. This project entailed creating an
environment that showcased 10 ultimate bathroom videos, images of each
ultimate bathroom (with interactive product hot spots that linked users
to a retail page where they could purchase the products showcased), a
favorite room poll, and "Email a Friend" function. Scripps Networks was
so pleased with the work created that they asked Planet Studio to work
on the subsequent Ultimate Spa Website. Promax is the world’s premier body for promotion and marketing professionals working in electronic and broadcast media. The Promax|BDA Awards include more than 600 categories, and are regarded as the most prestigious for creative endeavors in this field. |

Planet adds a new member, and a new capability to its growing team - Brian Rogers, 3D graphic artist. "Brian brings a very specialized talent to the studio that opens doors for client opportunities that we otherwise would not have," says Larnie Higgins, Owner & Creative Director of Planet Studio. An example of this is the Rogers Athletic catalog. The client needed to have complete catalogs to distribute at trade shows, however, most of their equipment was still in production and therefore could not be photographed. No photos makes it hard to develop a catalog! Brian rendered the products for the catalog and the client was thrilled with the outcome (and so were we). |
